At 2am, authorities stopped a hired van in Landres, near Briey, uncovering 6,284 bottles of strong spirits packed into 401 boxes, with a total value of €45,000. The man, who was just returning from Luxembourg, failed to show a proof of purchase for the goods, reports the Meurthe-et-Moselle gendarmerie.
Investigations uncovered that the suspect made three trips to the Grand Duchy to stock up on supplies. However, he insists he was merely a ‘haulier’ working under orders from his boss. The inquiry is now focused on uncovering further details in the Parisian region.
The confiscated alcohol will be auctioned publicly, with proceedings going to the French state.
