Whilst the UK's citizens head to the polls, European leaders are meeting in Brussels for a two-day summit.

Luxembourg’s Prime Minister Xavier Bettel arrived at the summit, being held in the Europa building, and was asked what advice he would give to the UK prime minister elected once the votes are tallied. Whoever that may be - expected to be either Boris Johnson or Jeremy Corbyn, Bettel’s advice was simple:

“To get a majority in the House of Commons and to be able to fulfil the agreements we decided on both sides. To have a parliament in London that agrees on the future relationship and all these things very quickly,” Bettel told reporters. His comments usually tend to reflect widely-held views amongst EU28 leaders, which in this case are that a Johnson majority and the UK’s withdrawal on 31 January 2020 would be the best outcome, or, rather least-worst outcome.

Incidentally, new European Council president will be representing the United Kingdom at the summit, as incumbent prime minister Boris Johnson cannot attend, for a quite obvious reason.
