A 14-month-old baby girl died under unclear circumstances at a nursery in Libramont, Belgium, prompting the temporary closure of the facility and an outpouring of support for the grieving family. The tragic news was confirmed by the town’s mayor, Laurence Crucifix, who stated that the entire staff was in shock.
“It’s a heartbreaking situation. Our thoughts are first and foremost with the family”, she said.
Emergency services were called to the scene between 2pm and 3pm on Tuesday afternoon, and a social worker from the local police zone was despatched to the scene. The nursery, managed by the Public Social Welfare Centre (CPAS) of Libramont, has been closed for the remainder of the week as a result of the incident.
Parents of the other children attending the nursery were later informed of the incident.
