A tiger escaped in an industrial area near Leipzig on Sunday and injured one individual.

A major police operation took place near Leipzig on Sunday. A tiger had escaped in an industrial area. Police announced that the animal injured one person. According to further reports, the animal has since been shot. "There is no longer any danger to the public", said a police spokesperson. Firefighters had cordoned off the area around the industrial zone over a wide perimeter.

The tiger belongs to trainer Carmen Zander, known as the 'Tiger Queen'. She keeps several tigers on an industrial site.

How the tiger managed to escape is not yet known.
