Three weeks after the dramatic fire at a bar in Crans-Montana, the young FC Metz footballer Tahirys Dos Santos has spoken out for the first time. The 19-year-old athlete wrote on social media that he is doing well following several difficult weeks and a recent transplant.

While acknowledging that the road to recovery remains long, he stated he is looking ahead with determination. Dos Santos sustained severe burns when he ran back into the burning “Le Constellation” bar to help his girlfriend.

A young man from Luxembourg, Eliot Thelen, who was also in the group celebrating New Year’s Eve at the venue, was extremely lucky and escaped with only minor injuries.

In a related development, the bar’s owner, a French national, was released from custody on bail of approximately €216,000 on Friday evening. As conditions of his release, he must surrender his passport and residence permit to the public prosecutor’s office, is prohibited from leaving Switzerland, and is required to report to the police daily.
