The new law proposes blocking access to legal gender recognition for transgender people, meaning the gender at birth is final.

The decision was heavily criticised by the LGBTQI+ community. EU Commissioner for Human Rights Dunja Mijátovic expressed her concern from the union’s part.

Hungary’s parliament, dominated by Orban’s ruling party, handed the prime minister the power from Tuesday to rule by decree until his government decides the virus crisis is over.
