The incident might have been even worse, according to the Dernières Nouvelles d’Alsace. On Friday morning at around 9am, an explosion caused the truck to set on fire, and the blaze quickly spread to two neighbouring cars.
Fortunately, favourable wind conditions and the location of the truck at the far end of the service station spared the rest of the building from setting ablaze. No one was harmed, but the 19-year-old truck driver was in a state of shock.
Around 20 firefighters from Colmar and Houssen intervened to quell the flames, which did damage the station’s roof.
