France's deconfinement on Tuesday 2 June will bring an end to the closure of restaurants and bars, and the 100km travel limitation. Here's a short overview of what will change this week.

  • In France’s green zones, food and beverage establishments are authorised to reopen their doors with a maximum of ten people per table, at least one metre between each group, and standing consumption prohibited. Ile-de-France, Mayotte and Guyana, which have always been on orange alert, only terraces can reopen.
  • All schools and colleges will reopen. Strict health protocols remain in place, however, limiting the classroom to 15 children at a time, who must all comply with a minimum social distance of one metre.

  • The wearing of protective masks is compulsory for “anyone eleven years of age or older” on public transport, at the train stations and airports. Constant mask wearing is still “recommended”. The government placed a price cap on gels and hydro-alcoholic solutions, while masks cannot be sold for more than 95 cents per unit.

  • Although travel beyond 100km from home is permitted again, areas can re-implement restrictions should they see a spike in cases. Borders remain closed, probably until 15 June.
  • Swimming pools, sports halls and gyms open in green zones on Tuesday, but only on 22 June in orange zones. Compulsory reservations, maximum time allowed and drastic hygiene measures will be put in place. Team sports remain prohibited until 22 June, but professional athletes may resume their training.

  • Campsites, holiday villages, leisure parks, zoos and tourist accommodations reopen on 2 June.

  • Cultural and sporting events will remain suspended, and discos, cinemas, game rooms, stadiums, racetracks will remain closed to the public until at least 22 June. Casinos can reopen Tuesday in the green zones, but only the slot machines and the electronic games will be authorised, thus table games remain prohibited.
