Regional president Jean Rottner explained that his intention was to thank workers that “actively participated in the the health management of our territory.”

10,000 employees of the private sector in the Grand Est will receive a €500 holiday voucher if they fulfil two criteria: their family allowance is below €700 and they “worked in direct contact with the public during the lockdown period.”

The vouchers will be handed out to “delivery men, cashiers, commercial employees: their commitment ensured the continuity of our daily lives and we are grateful to them,” Rottner said in a statement.

The holiday vouchers can be used in the Grand Est region to pay for accommodation, food, and tourist leisure activities as soon as tourism is relaunched.

President of the Grand Est’s commission for tourism Jackie Helfgott explained that the decision also contributes to economic solidarity as local tourism will be supported.
