Although encouraging news, the rest of France maintains an elevated reproduction rate that has recently been on the rise again. According to numbers conveyed by the French public health department, the rate currently surpasses the value of 1 in Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur (1.24) and in Pays-de-la-Loire (1.52).
The average in metropolitan France is also on the rise, climbing from 0.90 to 1.05.
The French region that was hit hardest by the first wave of coronavirus infections is experiencing a drop in the reproduction rate. It is currently set at 0.78, the lowest in France. The number of new infections per 100,000 citizens is also in decline.
Further improvements were registered in Alsace, Lorraine, Meurthe-et-Moselle, Meuse, Moselle, Vosges, Haut-Rhin, and Bas-Rhin.
French public health officials bid caution despite the improvements, since a second wave of infections could still hit the country in the not too distant future.
Responsibility by all residents is thus required: wearing of masks, keeping physical distance with others, washing of hands, and overall caution while being out in public.
