The 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly is taking place this week in New York, with around 130 heads of state and government expected to participate in the annual general debate.
The session opened with remarks by United Nations Secretary General António Guterres. He is followed by Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, then US President Donald Trump, whose address is anticipated with particular interest.
Grand Duke Guillaume of Luxembourg is scheduled to address the Assembly as the 14th speaker during the so-called morning session. According to the Grand Ducal Court, his speech, which will begin at 8.15pm Luxembourg time, will outline Luxembourg’s positions and priorities in response to international challenges.
Other notable speakers on the first day include French President Emmanuel Macron, British Prime Minister Burnham, and Japanese Prime Minister Takaichi.
