Lights were switched off at well-known landmarks for an hour on Saturday evening as part of Earth Hour, a global initiative aimed at raising awareness of climate change.

The initiative saw famous buildings and attractions go dark to symbolically highlight the importance of environmental protection.

Among the sites traditionally taking part are the Eiffel Tower, the Brandenburg Gate, Big Ben, and the Acropolis of Athens.

The initiative was observed worldwide, from the Caribbean to Australia. Organised by the World Wide Fund for Nature since 2007, Earth Hour has become one of the largest global climate campaigns.

The event serves as a reminder that even small actions, such as switching off lights for an hour, can send a strong signal in support of the environment.
