
A young motorist died in a head-on collision with a Belgian tourist bus on the A61 in Rhineland-Palatinate around 2.40 am on Sunday morning. Its driver and a passenger were seriously injured as a result of the impact.
The accident occurred as a result of the 29-year-old driver going against traffic on the A61 around Wörrstadt. Due to the violent nature of the impact, the young driver died at the scene. 32 people were on the bus at the moment of the accident.
Seven further individuals with minor injuries were taken to hospitals in Alzey and Bad Kreuznach, others were attended to at the scene, according to information obtained by the police.
The A61 had to be closed for traffic for several hours. Passengers of the tourist bus continued their journey to Belgium on board a replacement bus.
