GOVERNMENT UNVEILED - The composition of the new government is now official, with the Christian Social People’s Party (CSV) securing eight ministerial positions, while the Democratic Party (DP) claims seven. The upcoming ministers are scheduled to be sworn in by Grand Duke Henri tomorrow.

Luc Frieden is Prime Minister and thus also the head of the new government team. Xavier Bettel assumes the dual roles of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs. Other appointments include Claude Meisch as Education Minister, Yuriko Backes as Minister of Defence, Equality and Mobility. Gilles Roth is designated Minister of Finance, whilst Léon Gloden is set to take charge of the Ministry of Home Affairs and Internal Security. TRAIN STRIKE - A warning strike initiated by the German Train Drivers’ Union is set to disrupt train services not only within Germany but is also affecting Luxembourg. CFL has confirmed there will be no trains across the German-Luxembourg border today until 6pm.

ADHD CLINIC - Ettelbruck hospital is going to expand its pioneering ADHD “Attention Clinic’ and make it permanent. An estimated 2.5-5% of the global population are affected by attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). In Luxembourg, it is believed that between 16,000 and 33,000 people suffer from the condition.

World

ISRAEL-HAMAS WAR - Israel has promised proof to back up its claims that Hamas was using Gaza’s largest hospital as a command centre. Hamas has repeatedly denied the allegations. President Biden says the US has asked Israel to be incredibly careful in its operation at the Al-Shifa hospital.

US CHINA - President Biden says real progress has been made in talks with the Chinese President Xi Jingping. The two leaders had 4 hours of talks in San Francisco, the first meeting in a year. They agreed to re-start military contact, cooperate on anti-narcotic operations and hold talks on artificial intelligence.

OSCARS KIMMEL - Jimmy Kimmel has been announced as the host of the Academy Awards next March. It will be his 4th time presiding over the Oscars. His performance this year earned him an Emmy nomination.

Sport

FOOTBALL - It is the 9th match tonight of the national football team in the current European Championship qualification campaign. Luxembourg will take on Bosnia-Herzegovina at the Stade de Luxembourg at 8.45pm tonight. Among other qualifers tonight, Georgia play against Scotland, Liechtenstein takes on Portugal and Spain plays Cyprus.

Switzerland were made to wait to secure qualification for Euro 2024 as Shon Weissman’s 88th-minute strike salvaged a 1-1 draw for Israel yesterday. CRICKET - India has sealed a place in the World Cup final with a 70-run win over New Zealand yesterday. South Africa play Australia today to determine which team will feature in the final, which takes place on Sunday.

The day starts off cloudy with mist and some localized fog and drizzle possible. By late morning heavy rain will move in with strong winds. Temperatures will vary only slightly from a low of 6 degrees in the early morning to a high of 8 degrees in the evening.
