MoselleFrench policeman working in Luxembourg takes own life

The body of a Thionville policeman seconded to the Luxembourg Police and Customs Cooperation Centre (CCPD) was discovered on Saturday night.

The 47-year-old’s body was found near a pond in Koenigsmacker. The policeman apparently used a weapon to commit suicide, according to the Républicain Lorrain.

The officer was brigadier-chief at the Thionville office but was recently seconded to the CCPD in Luxembourg.

The news was announced on social media, with many including Metz mayor François Grosdidier offering condolences.

The man is the 24th police officer to pass away since the beginning of 2020 in France, with 59 officers dying last year.
