The Landesamt für Soziales, Jugend und Versorgung (State Office for Social Affairs, Youth and Supply) has announced that select pharmacies and a number of general practitioners have agreed to offer the free rapid tests from Monday 8 March.
These are rapid antigen tests (PoC tests) and the federal government bears the costs of these as they are rolled out.
Asymptomatic people, i.e. people who have no evidence of Covid infection, can be tested at these facilities.
Every citizen has the right to one free test per week. The tests are available for Trier residents only.
Those tested receive a corresponding certificate of the test. If the result is positive, a PCR test must be carried out immediately to verify the result.
