Following viral Twitter videoForced arrest of a teenager causes outcry in Germany

RTL Today
On Saturday, a German police officer was filmed while he was using the same technique that caused the death of George Floyd on a teenager in Düsseldorf.

The video already has accumulated over one million views since it has been posted on Twitter. It shows three police officers proceeding to forcefully arrest a teenager. One of them uses his knee to apply pressure to the young man’s neck.

The arrest took place in the old town of Düsseldorf on Saturday evening and is eerily reminiscent of the incident which caused the death of George Floyd in May.

According to information circulating in local newspapers, police were called because of a brawl in the proximity of a restaurant.

The teenager who was immobilised by police allegedly “disrupted police action” but was in fact not involved in the incident which initially caused the intervention.

Under pressure, Düsseldorf’s police department announced on Sunday evening that an investigation would be opened in order to determine the circumstances of the arrest. The case was handed over the to the Duisburg police department to ensure an unbiased handling.
