The Trier prosecutor’s office announced the four indictments on Thursday morning.
The defendants are between 18 and 22 years old. They are accused of breaking and entering into a mine without authorisation for a total of 9 times between January and December 2018.
The two main defendants, an 18-year-old German and a 21-year-old Luxembourger, have further been charged with stealing equipment during one of these these excursions in January 2018. In December of the same year, three of the accused allegedly stole 30 kg of the mining operation’s stockpile of explosives and detonators.
According to the prosecution report, which was released on Thursday, the young 21-year-old Luxembourger took a large part of the explosives to his home in Igel and stored them in his cellar.
The other main offender then took the rest to his own home in Grevenmacher. The public prosecutor’s office further states that they set off a number of explosions in isolated open fields between Germany and Luxembourg.
The two main defendants have been in custody since their arrest. The arrest warrant against the other two has been lifted.
