Igel, Germany - police evacuation150 residents return to their homes after police found explosives in basement

During a raid in an apartment block in Igel, not far from Wasserbillig, the German police discovered explosives in the basement of the building on Wednesday evening.

Police evacuated the building and the surrounding area, evacuating a total of 150 people. Police confirmed that officers had found highly explosive material and consequently secured the area surrounding the building in question.

After the explosives had been removed, the police allowed residents to return to their homes. Officers arrested one suspect. The police confirmed that they had excluded a political motive, but would continue to investigate the case.

150 firefighters and emergency service personnel as well as 36 police officers were in operation over several hours to dismantle the explosives.
