Needless to say, the act was deemed to be illegal on several counts - scooters are not permitted to exceed speeds of 25 kilometres per hour, nor are they allowed on the motorway.
The rider was not wearing high-visibility clothing and driving on a hard shoulder represents a third-degree infraction, according to Benoit Godart, spokesperson for Belgium’s Road Safety Institute.
The video was posted on social media on Monday, but it is not yet known when the actions took place.
Godart went on to say the act should not be reproduced, advising that a fall from a scooter at such a speed could result in serious injury. He also confirmed that should an accident take place, insurance would not be liable to cover it.
Godart also issued a reminder to cyclists and scooter riders to wear helmets, recommending fluorescent clothing for night-time journeys.
