Wallenda walked tightrope across a crater of an active volcano that has become known as “The Mouth of Hell.” The imaginative name of the crater speaks volumes: the boiling lake of lava spews toxic gases. Wallenda had to wear goggles and a respirator for protection from the hazardous gases - but he removed the googles halfway through the nail-biting stunt.
Wallenda made it across the crater within 31 minutes. He later explained that unpredictable winds had made the stunt especially challenging.
The Masaya Volcano is Nicaragua is one of eight volcanoes in the world with an active lava lake.
