RTL Today
Cape Verde marked 50 years of independence this weekend with official celebrations attended by Grand Duke Henri and Prime Minister Luc Frieden.

At the invitation of Cape Verdean President José Maria Neves, Grand Duke Henri travelled to the island nation to take part in the anniversary events. Also present were the President of Luxembourg’s Chamber of Deputies, Claude Wiseler, and other dignitaries.

Luxembourg and Cape Verde share a long-standing friendship and close cooperation. Since the most recent state visit by Cape Verdean officials to Luxembourg, the partnership has grown even stronger, particularly in the areas of environment, culture, technology, and education.

During the visit, Grand Duke Henri and President Neves discussed key issues related to these areas. The Luxembourg court later shared a summary of the visit on social media.

The ties between the two countries are also reflected in the large Cape Verdean community living in Luxembourg.

The celebrations concluded with a traditional Independence Day parade and a gala dinner attended by several heads of state.
