The man was arrested on 4 February, almost two weeks after the hit-and-run accident which happened close to the Zac de Briey.
According to the Republican Lorrain , the man, originally from Homécourt, had struck a car on the heights of Briey while he was travelling at high speed. The driver, who was driving without a licence with a car registered in Luxembourg, had fled before the arrival of the emergency services, leaving three injured people behind, one of whom was a child.

After being presented to the Briey court on Thursday, the suspect was given time to prepare his defence. However, the judge opted to keep him in custody until the date of his trial. It is thought the man is a repeat offender concerning driving without a licence.
