Belgian authorities responded to a series of bomb threats targeting multiple schools in the Namur region on Monday, 16 March.
According to a statement from the public prosecutor’s office, police services received an email on Monday morning containing a bomb threat that named 12 schools within the judicial district of Namur.
In response, both judicial authorities and police took the threat “very seriously,” deploying a protection detail to all the locations mentioned in order to guarantee public safety.
An investigation was immediately launched. While authorities were able to identify a potential suspect, further inquiries conducted during the morning ultimately cleared that individual of any involvement.
By late morning, the security measures were lifted. The investigation remains ongoing, with authorities working to identify the author or authors of the threatening email and to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.
