The car is thought to have hit the victim’s body at 5am on Saturday morning. An investigation is underway to determine whether the man died before impact or as a result of the crash.

The prosecutor’s office in Namur has taken charge of the affair.

The driver of the vehicle in question was found following a witness report and was apprehended by police on grounds of manslaughter and hit and run.

In the driver’s testimony, he admitted to having felt the collision but claimed he thought it was a wild boar, so did not stop. The road was unlit and visibility was poor due to foggy conditions at the time of the incident.

The victim was identified as a French citizen aged around thirty, who was participating in an apprenticeship in Belgium.

Forensics are attempting to shed light on the matter, with the assistance of a car expert, according to publications la DH and Sudpresse.
