The video, which shows how one officer fastens zips around the wrists of the 6-year-old pupil, has sparked outrage on social media. The young girl was reportedly arrested for kicking staff members at her Orlando charter school. The assistant principal later explained in a statement that the pupil “became aggressive hitting me with her hands in the chest and stomach area.”
The police officer was fired shortly after the incident. A police chief explained that the arresting officer had not followed the usual police protocol as he did not get approval from a higher ranking officer before taking someone younger than 12 into custody.
The young girl can be heard begging the officers to give her “a second chance” and not to be arrested and put in the police car. The officer also told school employees that the young pupil has “broken the record” for being the youngest person to be arrested.
The child’s grandmother told CNN that her granddaughter was still suffering from nightmares.
