The fire broke out at around 5.00pm in Sanry-lès-Vigy, just north of Metz, according to local paper Républicain Lorrain.
A bird was electrocuted after flying into a high-voltage power line, and ignited the recently-harvested field upon falling to the ground. The blaze spread over 25 hectares, and required an hour-long intervention by fire fighters to get the fire under control.
