DP LEADERSHIP – Carole Hartmann has been elected as the president of the Democratic Party (DP), receiving over 95% of the vote. Hartmann succeeds Lex Delles, who had previously announced that he would step down as party president due to time constraints. Hartmann is part of a mainly female leadership team with Defence and Transport Minister Yuriko Backes as first vice president and Corinne Cahen and Amela Skenderović as vice-presidents.

DEI LENK CONGRESS – Luxembourg’s left party (Déi Lénk) also held its Congress yesterday and announced it is using the time before the next elections to reorganise, restructure internally, and reevaluate its foreign and defence policies to align with the current geopolitical climate. This shift is not entirely supported by all within the party.

PARK & RIDE AIRPORT – The new Park-and-Ride Häienhaff at the airport has been open since this morning. 481 parking spaces and a bicycle shed are available here and it has its own tram stop. Parking is free for 24 hours, but you are obliged to travel more than one and a half kilometres by tram or bus to avoid people parking here for the airport.

TUNNEL TRAFFIC – Drivers are advised to exercise caution when travelling on the A1 today, as traffic is restricted near the Howald Tunnel. The roadworks department announced on Sunday that “damage” had been caused to safety equipment inside the tunnel. While the tunnel remains open, the left lane is closed in the Germany-Luxembourg direction until tomorrow morning at 5am. Traffic in the Luxembourg-Trier direction remains unaffected.

RAIL STRIKE – With industrial action planned by SNCB from today, cross-border rail passengers are being urged to plan ahead and consult live timetables. Train services between Luxembourg and Belgium are likely to be disrupted from 10pm today until 10pm on Tuesday. Passengers are advised to anticipate delays and possible train cancellations during this period.

World

UKRAINE WAR – Donald Trump says he believes Volodymyr Zelensky is prepared to hand over Crimea to Russia as part of any ceasefire peace deal. Trump has also stepped up pressure on Vladimir Putin, saying the Russian president should “stop shooting” and sign an agreement to end the war.

CANADA ELECTIONS – Canadian leaders have made their final push for votes in an election dominated by US President Trump’s policies, but were rattled in the campaign’s final hours by a deadly car-ramming attack in Vancouver. Prime Minister Mark Carney, the Liberal Party leader, is favoured to beat Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre in today’s vote, but polls show the race has tightened in recent days. The prime minister briefly paused his campaign schedule yesterday to address the nation after a driver ploughed into a crowd at a Filipino street festival in the west coast city, killing 11 people.

FRANCE STABBINGThe man suspected of stabbing a Muslim to death in a mosque in southern France has given himself up at a police station in Italy this morning. The attacker stabbed the worshipper dozens of times and then filmed him with a mobile phone while shouting insults at Islam in Friday’s attack in the village of La Grand-Combe in the Gard region.

Sport

FOOTBALLLiverpool are the champions of the English Premier League. The Reds thrashed Tottenham 5-1 yesterday to clinch a record-equalling 20th championship title.

In Sunday’s games in the German Bundesliga, Bremen and St. Pauli drew 0-0. Bochum and Union Berlin drew 1-1.

In Italy, Inter Milan’s defence of their Serie A title was hit with a setback on Sunday as they lost 1-0 at home to Roma, while Napoli beat Torino 2-0 to go top of the table.

And in France, Marseille thumped Brest 4-1 to reclaim second place in Ligue 1 amid a fierce fight for Champions League qualification.

CYCLING – In cycling, world champion Tadej Pogacar has won the Liège-Bastogne-Liège race, his third victory in the legendary cycling classic.

BASKETBALL – Etzella Ettelbruck have been crowned Luxembourgish champions for the 16th time following an 87:80 victory against T71 Dudelange. The home side secured the title with a convincing 3:0 sweep of the series.

Morning temperatures are slightly cooler after a comfortable 16-18°C at night, dropping to 8–9°C, but it will be a perfect 20 to 22°C for the rest of the day – ideal weather for work, outdoor activities, and relaxing. The forecast also predicts it is here to stay for the rest of the week.
