
Due to a sand storm coming from the Sahara, air traffic surrounding the Canary Islands was heavily disrupted on Saturday evening, according to authorities.
From the beginning of the afternoon, there were no arrivals or departures at the Gran Canaria airport, and no international or national arrivals at both Tenerife airports. Flights continued to depart from Tenerife, though.
The regional government of the Canaries has announced an alert for all islands in the area, with gusts of wind going up to 120 km/h, which are set to last several days.
The Canary government also highlights the fact the African dust has a significant important on visibility.
