A devastating accident in Saint-Hubert on Sunday, 11 May 2025, resulted in the death of a 10-year-old boy, Nathan, who succumbed to his injuries upon arrival at MontLégia Hospital in Liège.
The incident occurred when a dividing wall between two gardens on Rue de la Converserie collapsed onto Nathan and his younger sister. While the sister sustained leg injuries and was hospitalised in Libramont, her condition is not life-threatening.
The community of Saint-Hubert was left in shock Monday morning following news of the tragedy. In a statement issued that evening, the Public Prosecutor’s Office of the Belgian Province of Luxembourg confirmed the boy’s death shortly after hospitalisation.
Preliminary witness accounts indicate the wall was in poor condition. The family involved was renting the property and did not own the structure.
“At this stage, the outcome of the case remains uncertain”, a magistrate stated. “However, it may lead to civil proceedings rather than criminal charges. Under the Civil Code, liability falls on those responsible for maintaining a building in disrepair when such negligence causes harm.”
