At least five people have died following a blaze in a three-storey house in Neuves-Maisons, around 14km from Nancy, during the night from Saturday to Sunday.
Initial reports spoke of four victims, a 20-year-old woman, a 16-year-old teenager, and two people aged 59 and 60, with two others injured.
Shortly afterwards, authorities confirmed the sad news that another injured person had not survived. Firefighters stated that the injured were aged 16 and 21, though it has not yet been confirmed which of them later passed away. It also remains unclear whether the victims were members of the same family.
Fire crews were called to the scene at around 3am and deployed 30 vehicles and 70 firefighters. The blaze was brought under control quickly, but the cause of the fire is still unknown.
