GRAND DUKE GUILLAUME – Grand Duke Guillaume already has a number of audiences today. The new Luxembourg head of state will receive the President of Luxembourg's Council of State, Marc Thewes, the President of the Chamber of Deputies, Claude Wiseler, as well as Prime Minister Luc Frieden.

ROYAL SUCCESSION – The nation's three-day celebrations concluded in Luxembourg City's Cathedral yesterday, where Cardinal Jean-Claude Hollerich praised Grand Duke Guillaume's attentive leadership and commitment to Luxembourg's diverse society. World

GAZA PEACE PLAN – The EU and a number of important Gulf states are meeting in Kuwait today to discuss the situation in the Middle East and especially US President Trump's Gaza peace plan. Luxembourg is represented by Foreign Minister Xavier Bettel.

The American peace plan for Gaza is also a topic in Egypt today. Representatives of Israel and Hamas are seeking to finalise a ceasefire and hostage-prisoner swap.

NOBEL PRIZE – The Nobel Prize season kicks off today. Research into hormones that regulate appetite is seen leading the race for the Nobel Prize in Medicine, to be awarded today.

FRANCE POLITICS – President Emmanuel Macron's office has unveiled a new cabinet to be led by Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu, whose most pressing task will be to win support for a 2026 budget in a fragmented and fractious parliament. Former finance minister Bruno Le Maire will return to the government as France's new defence minister, while others, like Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau and Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot, will stay in their posts.

MOUNT EVEREST RESCUE – At least 350 tourists have been rescued from Mount Everest over the weekend. Chinese media reported yesterday that around 1,000 people were trapped in their tents due to a snowstorm. There are also reports of casualties, although no details are known.

Sport

FOOTBALL – Starting with some football results from the weekend: In the German Bundesliga, Borussia Mönchengladbach and Freiburg drew 0-0. Hamburg beat Mainz 4-0.

In the French League, Lille and Paris St Germain drew 1-1.

And in the English Premier League, Manchester City beat Brentford 1-0.

FORMULA 1 – George Russell led Mercedes to victory at the Singapore Grand Prix ahead of Max Verstappen and Lando Norris, as McLaren clinched the Formula One constructors' championship.

CYCLING Tadej Pogacar has delivered a trademark 75km breakaway to win the European road race title in France, adding the stars jersey to the world title he won a week ago and his fourth Tour de France triumph in July.

Early morning fog will be waiting for us and, once it lifts, a bunch of clouds will take its place, making sure we don't see a lot of sun today.On the other hand, we're only expecting a little bit of rain, mostly up to the early afternoon. A slight wind might gently ruffle your hair, but nothing too bad. The temperature barely changes today: it starts off around 6–8°C, going up to 12–14°C.
