A fatal accident at Trier station on Tuesday afternoon has led to disruptions in train traffic between Luxembourg and Germany, however it has now resumed.
Train traffic on the border route between Luxembourg and Germany was disrupted on Tuesday afternoon due to a fatal incident in Trier.
The Luxembourg National Railway Company (CFL) reported that an "incident requiring emergency services" occurred on the German network.
German police confirmed that a 56-year-old man was struck by a train travelling from Koblenz at around 3.30pm. According to authorities, the man fell onto the tracks before being hit.
As a result of the incident, Trier station has been closed since 3.30pm, causing disruptions to train services between Wasserbillig and Trier in both directions.
CFL has arranged a replacement bus service for affected passengers, operating between Wasserbillig and Trier station, with stops at Wasserbillig, Igel, Trier Süd, and Trier main station.
CFL has advised passengers to check its app and website for ongoing updates.
