The Imperial March was blasting down the River Thames this week.

Londoners were left confused for two reasons this week: One, a German Navy ship was spotted cruising down the River Thames. Second, its journey was accompanied by the iconic Imperial March theme from Star Wars.

The ship was in London for training and a supply stop, and according to a spokesperson of the German Navy speaking to the BBC the music had "no deeper message" and "the commander can choose the music freely".

Social media users were quick to respond to the viral video, with one joking: "I'm starting to fear that the Germans have a sense of humour", and another with a rather dark comment that it "took them 80 years".
