Who needs the Olympic Games if you can watch the World Dog Surfing Championships in California?
A highlight on the animal sports calendar every year: the World Dog Surfing Championships in the Californian Pacific. Last Saturday 7,000 spectators gathered to admire twenty dogs in the competition, more or less showing off their talents on the board confidently.
With security jackets and go pro cameras the dogs lunged into the water. Among other criteria the dogs were judged for how long they could stay on the board, and if they had special tricks to show off.
The winner of the day was a brown labrador called “Cacau” who was especially flown in for the competition from Brazil and he secured first place in a few categories. Not only did he surf backwards, barking with gusto while doing so.
