French electric utility company Électricité de France S.A. (EDF) was once again forced to disconnect generation unit 4 at the Cattenom power plant due to a recent fault, marking the second incident in less than five weeks.

Following the turbine shutdown in the turbine-generator unit, Reactor No 4 at the Cattenom nuclear power plant was initially disconnected from the electricity grid on 8 June.

On Wednesday, 12 July, the reactor was once again disconnected due to "a fault on a system ancillary to the turbine," according to the Grand Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps (CGDIS), specifying that the fault occurred in the non-nuclear part of the facility.

The plant's technical teams are actively investigating the cause of the issue and establishing the necessary measures for a safe reconnection to the grid.

Authorities stress that this event has had no adverse effects on the facility's safety, personnel, or the environment.

Currently, only production unit 3 remains in operation, while units 1 and 2 are scheduled for maintenance shutdown.
