A woman with dual Luxembourgish and Belgian nationality was killed in Germany on Saturday, following a knife attack which left one other person with injuries.
A German man in his 30s was arrested on Saturday afternoon after attacking two people and killing one with a knife in Bad Hönningen, south of Koblenz.
The victim was a 55-year-old mother-of-three who resided in Embourg, Belgium. She succumbed to her injuries on Saturday. Another victim, a man aged 30, was rushed to hospital and was said to be stable with non-life-threatening injuries as of Monday.
The Koblenz public prosecutor's office confirmed a 37-year-old man had been taken into custody on suspicion of homicide and grievous bodily harm. Reports say that the man suffered from mental illness and had selected his victims at random, although mayor Jan Ermtraud told news outlet SWR that he would discourage any speculation surrounding the incident.
