An almost surreal accident took place in Flémalle, Wallonia, on Thursday evening. The driver was seriously injured.

While the circumstances of the accident are still unclear, CCTV footage shows that the car soared through the air and crashed through the wall of a sports centre.

The car in question, a black Mercedes, hit the centre section of a roundabout, which acted as a sort of ramp.

The car was travelling so fast that it went up in the air and then through the wall of the Salle Omnisports Louis Melin. The images of the aftermath speak for themselves.

According to the Liège fire brigade, the driver was removed from the vehicle before receiving first aid. He was then taken to hospital. He is said to be in critical condition.

An ambulance, the Mobile Emergency and Resuscitation Structure (SMUR), the fire brigade, and an extrication vehicle were despatched to the scene.
