Hundreds of people coming back from holidays have been tested at the four newly installed testing stations in Rhineland-Palatinate.
Detailed figures and results are expected to be published at the beginning of next week, according to a spokesperson of the Federal Ministry of Health.
The tests are free and are only being offered to those returning from holidays. As of this Saturday, people returning from countries classified as "at-risk" are required to get themselves tested, if they do not carry a negative test result from just before they left their destination.
From Rhineland-Palatinate's neighbouring countries, only Luxembourg has been classified "at-risk" by the German Robert-Koch-Institute.
Certain exceptions still apply: Those who have spent less than 72 hours in the Grand-Duchy must neither get tested nor go into quarantine.
The new testing stations are supposed to relieve local GPs. They have been operational since Wednesday or Thursday respectively.
They are located:
1) near Frankfurt Hahn airport
2) in Bitburg close to the Belgian border
3) close to Landau near the A65 motorway for those entering German from France
4) on the Markusberg parking area on the A64, where 170 people turned in the first few hours to get tested, according to the German Red Cross. Minister President of Rhineland-Palatinate Malu Dreyer visited the station on Friday
