According to surveys by the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), the reproduction figure for Rhineland-Palatinate is 1.32, compared to 0.91 nationally, as announced by the Ministry of Health in Mainz on Wednesday.
An R-value of 1 means that an infected person is on average, likely to pass the virus to one other.
Fluctuations in the number of reproductions of 1 are to be expected in a situation where the infection rate is at a relatively low level, but there are still local infection hotspots, the ministry said.
