The former president of the European Commission stated that the decision taken at the beginning of the crisis not to supply other countries with medical equipment was "100% Un-European".

Juncker made this statement in an interview with the German news magazine "Spiegel".

He also said that he had been surprised that Germany of all countries would be capable of such reactions.

Juncker also criticised the decision to close the borders even though the controversial step was met with outrage by large parts of the population.

However, the former prime minister welcomed Merkel's current efforts alongside the president of France, Emmanuel Macron, to push an ongoing debate over a fund for the relaunch of the European Union.
