According to a recent study, almost half of Ischgl’s population has developed antibodies to the coronavirus. This makes the popular ski resort the area with the highest level of antibodies in the world. Around 40% of Austria’s infections could be traced back to the village. The same goes for many other infection waves in Europe, which had put the authorities in Tirol under considerable pressure at the beginning of the outbreak.
85% of people that tested positive for antibodies had contracted the virus unknowingly, only 15% had been diagnosed with OCVID-19 by a doctor. Although resistance is higher Ischgl than anywhere else, the so-called heard immunity has not been reached.
The study included 80% of Ischgl’s population, testing a total of 1,473 people between 21 and 27 April.
