Authorities are unalarmed by the increase of positive cases however, since the number of tests in both departments has been upgraded substantially.

The regional health agency ARS notes: “Both departments undertake a large number of tests, which naturally leads to an increase in positive cases reported.”

In Meuse, the increase amounts to 7.7 new positive cases per 100,000 citizens. In Meurthe-et-Moselle, the tally has risen from 7 to 22.7 new cases from 1 June until 7 June.

These numbers are 5 to 6 times higher than that of the national average (4.3), and almost 3 times as high as the regional one (8.8).

ARS emphasises: “The numbers still need analysis in regard of other epidemiological surveillance factors.” They further assure that the current circulation of the virus is under control and that local hospitals were nowhere near capacity limits.

According to the agency’s latest numbers, 98 people have died of COVID-19 inside a hospital since the beginning of March, with 31 patients remaining on Tuesday and 3 in intensive care. In Meurthe-et-Moselle, 365 people died after contracting the virus, 119 patients still being hospitalised on Tuesday, 9 receiving special treatment. Grand Est in general, one of the most heavily touched regions, still counted 1,646 hospitalised patients on Tuesday.
