A 59-year-old woman has died following a traffic accident in the German town of Konz, just across the border from Luxembourg.
The incident occurred on Wednesday at approximately 1pm on Schillerstrasse. According to police, the woman was crossing a zebra crossing when she was struck by a van. The 53-year-old driver had been turning from Granastrasse onto Paul-Magar-Platz and reportedly did not see the pedestrian.
Emergency services attempted resuscitation, but the victim succumbed to her injuries at the scene. The driver was treated for shock and subsequently transported to a hospital.
The area was temporarily closed to allow for investigation. Authorities are continuing to examine the exact circumstances surrounding the accident.
