Euren neighbourhood in Trier250 kg aerial bomb found during construction works

A WWII-era British aerial bomb was found in the Euren neighbourhood in Trier on Tuesday afternoon, some 10 kilometres away from Wasserbillig.

The city authorities detailed that the bomb is 250 kilograms heavy and equipped with a detonator. The bomb is an MC 500. Authorities will decide how to defuse the bomb on Wednesday and in turn evacuate residents in the affected area.

According to the bomb disposal team’s information, there is currently no risk that the bomb will explode. The bomb was found at a depth of 1.20 metres and was discovered during survey works ahead of a construction site for a new sports hall.

The specific area in question has been cordoned off and the bomb is being monitored until a decision has been made.
