Footage shared on social media shows panicked passengers evacuating the plane, some jumping from the wing to the tarmac to escape the smoke and flames. According to authorities, 18 people sustained injuries during the evacuation, with six requiring hospitalization.
It has since been confirmed that there was no fire and it was a false alarm, and an investigation is underway.
Ryanair later clarified that it was a false alarm. A spokesperson explained: " The flight aborted its takeoff due to a false fire warning signal. Passengers disembarked using inflatable slides and returned to the terminal. During disembarkation, a small number of passengers suffered very minor injuries (sprained ankles, etc.) and the crew requested immediate medical assistance. To minimize disruption, we quickly arranged for a replacement aircraft, which departed Palma at 7.05 this morning.”
