RTL Today
A 17-year-old girl has drowned in the Rhine following a bathing accident on Wednesday evening. Two other girls, 13 and 14 years old, remain missing on Thursday.

“The chance that we’ll find the girls alive is almost nil”, said a police spokesperson.

The three girls went swimming in the river late on Wednesday afternoon. According to witnesses they were swept away by the current.

The 17-year-old girl could be rescued but later passed away in hospital. She had been located with the help of a rescue helicopter and rescue swimmer. Emergency responders attempted to reanimate her.

The river was closed to shipping traffic on Wednesday, but reopened on Thursday morning. Around 160 emergency responders, from diving teams to rescue helicopters and firefighters, are at the scene.
