The spacecraft will be built by Astrobotic Technology and launched in 2021 by United Launch Alliance’s Vulcan rocket.
Astrobotic was one of nine companies chosen in November to compete for $2.6 billion to develop small space vehicles. The contract also included demands for other technology for 20 missions to explore the moon over the next decade.
Barring any delays, Astrobotic will launch the first American spacecraft to land on the moon since 1972.
