Eye witness Isabelle said she could not believe her eyes. “It was impressive, it happened so quickly”.
Another spectator, Régis, was in awe of what he saw on the motorway on his way to work. “It was a bright spot in the sky, larger than a star and it was diving so fast”.
Several cameras caught the spectacle which lasted only a few seconds, including one in Antwerp. The operators of said camera released a video on Youtube:
The meteor was seen from Belgium, the Netherlands, England, France and Germany, according to the International Meteor Organization.

Hervé Lamy of the Belgian institute said that the meteor was incredibly bright and was most likely made of several metals like iron and nickel given the yellow/green colour it emanated when it vaporised.
For reference, such objects are called meteor if they completely vaporise upon entry in the atmosphere. If some residues make it to the ground, it is called a meteorite. In this case, it could be that some bits did land on Earth, but they almost certainly fell into the sea.
Due to the speed of the object it is very likely that it was in fact a meteor, says Lamy.
