Organic farmingLuxembourg lags behind EU average on organic farming

New data from Eurostat shows that Luxembourg is far below the EU average in terms of the share of farming area devoted to organic farming.

To make a fair comparison between member states, Eurostat measured the percent of “utilised agricultural area” (i.e. active farmland) that is used to grow organic crops.

The EU average lands as 7%, while the figure for Luxembourg is considerably lower - only 4.2% of utilised agricultural area is used to grow organic crops. This places Luxembourg 9th from the bottom of the ranking.

The countries most heavily invested in organic farming, meanwhile, are:

1) Austria (23.4%)
2) Estonia (19.6%)
3) Sweden (19.2%)
4) Italy (14.9%)
5) Czechia (14.1%)
